SIMPLICITY
Simplicity Manufacturing, Inc., was founded in 1922 by William J. Niederkorn in Port Washington, Wisconsin - a small, family-oriented community along the shores of Lake Michigan.

The first product manufactured by Simplicity Manufacturing, Inc., was a portable boring and grinding machine for reconditioning automobile engines. The demand for this product disappeared in 1936, when Detroit started rebuilding engines to sell directly to car and truck owners.

Well-established in the lawn and garden equipment industry

In 1937, Simplicity entered the outdoor power equipment industry by building two-wheel walking tractors for Montgomery Ward & Company. These became so popular that an entire line of lawn and garden equipment was soon designed by Simplicity.

The first lawn and garden product made by Simplicity was a two-wheel walking tractor in 1937.

The company has been making ride-on tractors since 1939 and snowthrowers since 1961. Walk behind tillers were first produced in 1955.

Simplicity has history in the commercial tractor business since 1971 that was reemphasized in 1989 when the company acquired the Middlesworth Engineering company. The commercial riding mowers featured patented hydro steer design and exclusive steering wheel control for a zero turning radius.

In the early 1990s, when legislation banned yard waste from landfills, it became increasingly difficult for homeowners to dispose of yard debris. Simplicity responded with equipment that attached to its existing tractor lines to mulch and shred grass clippings and leaves. In 1992, through the acquisition of Tornado Products Company, Simplicity entered the chipper shredder market and later expanded the line to include walk-behind chipper vacuums.

On December 2, 1999, Simplicity acquired Ferris Industries, Inc., a New York-based manufacturer of professional turf care machinery. In January 2000, Ferris Industries - A Simplicity Company - announced a new line of professional quality mowers for the homeowner. Called Derby™, the new line features three models.

Giant-Vac Inc., the outdoor power equipment industry's leading supplier of leaf and debris handling equipment became the newest member of the Simplicity family in December 2000. Giant-Vac Manufactures a complete line of leaf blowers, leaf loaders, collection systems, vacuums and debris handlers.

Beginning in 2001, Simplicity began introducing its next generation of lawn, yard and garden tractors. Beginning with the Conquest yard tractor and Prestige garden tractor in July, 2001, and continuing with the all-new Broadmoor in July, 2002, Simplicity has raised the bar for reliability, quality of cut, styling and operator comfort in residential lawn and garden tractors.

In October 2002, Simplicity entered into an agreement to buy Snapper, Inc., a Georgia-based manufacturer of lawn and garden equipment for both residential and commercial markets. The Snapper line of walk behind mowers and rear-engine riders fits well into the Simplicity strategy of offering premium quality lawn and garden equipment to its customers.
